This handsome guy is Kirby. Kirby is an almost 2 ½ year old Catahoula mix that is the happiest dog that you will ever meet! Kirby is full of personality and loves to go on long walks, rides in the car, and cuddle with his person. Kirby is a special boy because he was born without his eyes, but being blind doesn’t slow Kirby down one bit. Blind is Kirby’s normal, so he loves to run and play and does so with no fear. Because of this, Kirby needs a secure yard where he can run and play safely. Kirby is so well adjusted to being blind, that it is easy to forget sometimes that he can't see. Kirby has been in a foster home since the beginning of 2014 and has done amazingly well. He is completely housebroken and while in foster has never needed to be crated, although he was crated at times while living at the rescue, so he is ok with either as long as he has toys and a rawhide to chew on. Kirby has attended doggie daycare where he plays in an open yard with many other dogs, but a meet and greet with other dogs in a potential forever home would be required. Kirby has done well around children, but we feel he would do best in a home with older children. Kirby walks well on a leash and has mastered commands that keep him safe while walking or playing. He knows “stop”, “careful” (for dealing with obstacles), “up”, “down” (when approaching curbs or steps) and “sit”. Aside from a secure yard, all Kirby needs is LOVE. Please consider adding Kirby to your family! If you have any questions about blind or vision impaired dogs, please ask!
